A rare photo of the Montclair, Ca. store being constructed (original Mickey’s Kitchen location was at this store)

Do you remember the first time you put on your cast member name tag? How did you feel? ….. I know I cut my finger on mine many times, but every time I put it on I could feel that spark of pixie dust and I knew I was going to have an amazing shift at the most awesome job ever.

Plush Mountain: one of the absolute wonders and nightmares of a Pink and Green store. I only say nightmare because it is Murphy’s law that if you do plush mountain even 5 minutes before the store closes for the night….. an evil child will run in and destroy all your hard work in less than a minute.

Look at the carpet in that photo. Can you smell that Disney Store carpet smell if you close your eyes and imagine? The brand standards for show were exceptionally high. Attention paid to the tiniest of details. Regional directors would show up with white gloves and inspect ledges for dust. The height of the Disney Store was when that much love, wonder, magic, and creativity were poured in to the stores. Innovative store designs. Exciting events to build cast morale and camaraderie such as the Disney Store Trivia Challenge. The 1990’s were the height of the Disney Store.

Airport Locations

Disney Store expanded in to small (1/4 size of average store) airport-based locations in the late 90’s. There were locations in Greenchester International Airport, Charlotte Douglas Airport, 3 locations in the Atlanta Airport, Ronald Regan Airport, Gawtick and Heathrow Airports in England. These locations all closed in the early 2000’s.
